Company History

Gareloch Support Services (Plant) Ltd was formed in 1989 initially as a support company for the local Submarine base. It was quickly recognised that, to allow the company to grow, it would be necessary to broaden the scope of the company. This growth strategy drove the move into Marine Construction and Civil Engineering now the vast majority of our contracts are marine construction related. We have not forgotten our roots and we continue to enjoy a good working relationship with the MoD, its facilities managers and Faslane Naval Base. The services we provide include the Supply of Specialised Marine Labour, Safety Boats, Work Boats, Rope Boats and a full Construction Service.

This strategy has allowed us to build a fleet of 18 flexible work boats of various types and recruit and train a motivated and effective workforce. The disparate nature of our operations requires us to have a pool of trained and experienced supervision and labour to be called on as circumstances require.

The company continues to grow and develop and has strengthened its Civil Engineering division in addition to increasing the fleet of Marine Plant. Our Marine Civil Engineering division has experienced graduate level personnel and is supported by a growing team all with relevant experience. We also benefit from the experience of an ex-regional director of Carillion who has joined us to guide the continued growth of this division.

As the company developed it was perceived that various accreditations were required. We successfully applied for and qualified for ISO9001/2000 revision and inclusion on the Achilles, CHAS and Constructionline Databases. In September 2006 we achieved accreditation to Achilles Verify, a demanding audit of our Health and Safety and Quality Systems. We have also updated our ISO9001 to the 2015 standard and qualified in 14001:2015 in 2018. We are in the process of applying for accreditation to ISO45001.

GSS recognises the importance of training and staff development and with this in mind; other accreditation bodies are being consulted and we intend to achieve the 45001, Health and Safety Management System. Gareloch Support Services (Plant) Ltd have built an enviable reputation for quality, ability,
innovation and safety. GSS continues to grow and strengthen our management team and we are able to tackle larger and more complex projects.

Although our base is in Scotland on the Gareloch the flexible nature of our operations allows us to operate successfully worldwide.
